WalClay
Biodegradable filament made from nut shells.
This project develops a biodegradable 3D printing filament from nut shells, an agricultural by-product currently underused in China. By transforming walnut shells into a printable material, it explores new ways of integrating agricultural waste into contemporary digital manufacturing.
Walnut shells are naturally clay-coloured, making the material suitable for heritage-inspired merchandise that visitors can customise and 3D print using an eco-friendly filament.
By combining sustainable materials, digital fabrication, and cultural heritage, the project transforms overlooked agricultural waste into a material with both environmental and cultural value.
