Re-tual
Sustainable prayer objects.
This pig is a sacred ritual offering alternative. It resembles the traditional offering form and is crafted from porcine collagen extracted from discarded pork skin used in ritual practice. The material retains both the essence of the offering and its original intention.
At its core, this practice operates as a closed-loop system, reprocessing ritual waste into forms that can be offered again. It reduces environmental impact while preserving cultural meaning, holding both realms in balance.
Designed to be water-soluble, the material can be remade through an ongoing cycle of renewal. Re-tual invites believers to reconsider how faith, matter, and regeneration can coexist within a continuous loop.
Re-tual examines the liminality of ritual practice, material propositions, and circular design within Thai offering traditions. The project positions ritual as a transitional process that transforms material into symbolic value, mediating between spiritual and physical realms. By using sacred waste as a renewable material resource, the project proposes a system in which offerings can be continually remade and reintroduced into worship.
