Straw Marquetry Bag

Straw marquetry applied to contemporary fashion.

This project reinterprets the art of straw marquetry, a craft tradition dating back to the seventeenth century, within a contemporary fashion context through the design of a Coperni bag and an original bag inspired by the Rococo era.

Traditionally applied to flat surfaces, the technique is extended to organic forms, allowing straw marquetry to take on a new spatial and tactile dimension. By integrating the craft into wearable accessories, the project shifts it from a static decorative surface to a dynamic design element.

The work explores how heritage techniques can be recontextualised while preserving the precision and richness of the craft. In doing so, it demonstrates how traditional practices can engage with new forms, materials, and modes of production.
