Invasive Threads

From colonial roots to regenerative threads.

The environmental impact of colonialism is evident in the spread of invasive plants, which are threatening India’s ecosystems. These plants are responsible for the catastrophic decline in tiger populations and have invaded over 66% of the country’s land, as reported by the Wildlife Institute of India. My work reimagines the roots of oppression as regenerative materials, transforming these invasive plants into threads dyed naturally, acquiring the UV- resistant properties of the plant’s leaves. This material is more than just textile; it is the raw material of resistance. It serves as a physical manifestation of healing from colonial harm and a blueprint for a regenerative future, offering both ecological and economic healing for the ecosystem and its people.
