Regenesis

The Bang Fai rocket, crafted from indigenous materials, to help nourish the rice growing cycle following the rain asking ceremony.

Saline soils have long challenged rice cultivation in northeastern Thailand, particularly in the Thung Kula Ronghai rice fields. In Yasothon, where farming relies solely on rainfall, farmers face drought, high salinity, and barren soil, turning to Naga, the rain guardian, for hope.

To summon the rain, they celebrate the Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival. This traditional ritual is reimagined with rockets made from indigenous rice husk biochar and glazed with rice husk silica. As they soar and burst into the sky, they symbolically nourish the rice fields and sustain the cycle of growth.
