Powering Pencader

Integrating renewable energy technologies into rural communities to explore new ways of harvesting electricity

Various alternatives to fossil fuels, such as solar, wind, and tidal power, exist to generate energy sustainably. However, the installation and use of these technologies can have a negative impact on the immediate environment.

To address this issue, I am undertaking a residency project in North Wales, focused on the village of Pencader. The project explores how renewable energy technologies can be integrated into pre-existing practices and environments to generate electricity while minimising environmental harm. As part of this effort, I have developed an attachment for a local spinner’s spinning wheel that converts the motion into electricity. This community-led project offers creative and collaborative solutions for generating electricity using local resources, which are better for both us and the planet. The energy produced will support social and environmental restoration by powering a community event.
